WILDE Way Leadership Initiative (ages 11 - 13)

Introducing the WILDE Way Leadership Initiative (11-13)

The WILDE Way Leadership Initiative (11-13) is a 10-day program for youth ages 11–13 who are ready to begin their journey as emerging leaders in the wilderness.

Campers start as their own dedicated leadership group, learning and growing together through immersive outdoor experiences, reflection, and teamwork.

  • Guided by experienced wilderness instructors, participants develop key leadership and wilderness skills. Throughout the first portion of the program, the leadership group focuses on building their skills and confidence through challenges, reflection, and mentorship.
  • As the camp progresses, they begin to apply what they’ve learned by assisting instructors and helping facilitate activities with younger camper groups.

This hands-on experience allows them to step into real leadership roles—modeling positive behavior, supporting others, and discovering their own leadership styles in action.

The Details

Leadership Mentoring and Coaching

Campers also meet regularly with the Leadership Coordinator for focused coaching on group management, safety, and leadership development. Guided journaling and portfolio activities encourage self-reflection, helping participants recognize their growth and identify their next steps as young leaders.

Develop a Leadership Portfolio

Each camper builds a personal Leadership Portfolio that captures their growth and achievements, setting the stage for future leadership opportunities. With a balance of adventure, reflection, and connection, WILDE Roots helps young leaders grow from the ground up — strong, grounded, and ready to take their next step.

Who Are We Looking For? The Ideal Leadership Initiative Applicant

We’re looking for high school students who have a passion for the outdoors. Students who are willing to take on a challenge and push themselves.

You will get the opportunity to help teach and support elementary students, developing your leadership and outdoor skills.

You will be joining a group of highly trained teachers, outdoor educators, and therapists providing fun and experiential education to youth.

What About My Highschool Credits/Diploma?

Our leadership program compliments the Ontario curriculum for high school education. Not only will students participate in teaching and leading younger students, they will gain hard skills in a variety of outdoor pursuits, develop their soft skills of organisation, responsibility, public speaking, and critical thinking and they will help to design and lead a community outreach program.

There are no high school credits given for participating in this program.
