Introduction

The Blue Mountain WILDE School (BMWS) is a fully accredited independent elementary school with a focus on experiential education and wilderness integrated leadership development located in the Blue Mountains, Ontario.

Opportunity

We are seeking a Camp Counsellor to join our team at Wilde Camp this Summer.

Employment begins June 29th 2026 and runs until August 21st, 2026. This includes all holidays. There is mandatory paid staff training from June 22 - 26 from 9:00am - 4:00pm. Your regular work week will consist of working Monday - Friday from 8:15am - 4:45pm for a total of 40hours. Some additional after hours program prep will be required Full-Time and Part-Time opportunities are available.

The BMWS Camp Counsellor is required to have a strong knowledge of the natural world, be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions and be adaptable to support Camp Instructors in an outdoor setting. Reliable transportation is required in order to travel to our various program locations within the Blue Mountains region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hands-on experiences that connect participants to ecological systems, outdoor skills, and self-awareness.
  • Integrate permacognitive principles (care for self, others, and the earth; observation; reflection; systems thinking) into daily programming.
  • Support inquiry-led learning by asking “wonder questions,” nurturing curiosity, and encouraging student-led exploration.
  • Adapt activities to developmental needs and diverse learner profiles.
  • Foster a camp culture rooted in respect, consent, collaboration, and inclusivity.
  • Guide youth through community agreements, restorative conversations, and shared decision-making.
  • Teach or assist with wilderness and campcraft skills (navigation, fire-building, shelter, ecology, knots, tool use, etc.).
  • Communicate clearly with co-staff, leadership, and (when appropriate) families.

Requirements

  • Backcountry / Adventure skills including: camping, canoeing, mountain biking, cross country skiing
  • Passionate about outdoor / experiential learning and outdoor education
  • Creative, energetic and fun characteristics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good initiative and ability to see what needs to be completed
  • Team Player
  • Experience in backcountry guiding and tripping (an asset)
  • Experience working with youth
  • Experience working in camp/recreational settings (an asset)

Qualifications

  • Highschool Diploma
  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification (Mandatory)

Additional Information

As a condition of employment, a valid Police Records Check (for working with the Vulnerable Sector) completed within the last 6 months is required prior to commencing work.

Mandatory completion of Standard First Aid with CPR-C

Compensation: $18.60
